A NEW station in Kent, Thanet Parkway, opened to passengers on July 31. Located at Cliffsend, just west of Ramsgate, the station is near to the junction of the A299 and A256 roads and Manston airfield.
Costing £34.5m, construction of the station – which is unstaffed and has two 250 metre platforms able to accommodate 12-car trains – began early in 2021. It will be served by both high speed services between London St Pancras International to Margate and SouthEastern services from London Bridge, Charing Cross or Cannon Street. Fastest journey time to London will be 70 mins.
Thanet Parkway is close to new housing and businesses, and the station provides the potential for an integrated transport hub in the future.
Station facilities include step-free access, ticket vending machines, waiting shelters, seating and CCTV. There is a 293 space car park (16 for blue badge holders) and electric vehicle charging points. There will also be an electric minibus shuttle to Discovery Park (a science, research and technology centre where 160 companies are based), taking just six minutes.
