ANNIVERSARY TRIP: Launceston Steam Railway’s Hunslet 0-4-0ST Lilian hauls a special train past Hunts Crossing in the late afternoon autumn light of October 22. The occasion was a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Launceston Railway Circle. The railway itself will be operating trains on Boxing Day 2023 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its opening.

HONOURS RECEIVED: Talyllyn stalwart John Bate was made an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list (RM, Headline News, July 2023) and was presented with his honour by the Lord Lieutenant of Gwynedd, Edmund Seymour Bailey, during a ceremony at theTalyllyn Railway’sWharf station on October 26. John, a volunteer since 1951 and the railway’s chief engineer between 1963- 1994, was recipient of The Railway Magazine HRA Annual Award for Services to Railway Preservation in 2019.

PREPARATIONS are being made at Amberley Museum to lift the boiler of the Peter Smith family-owned Decauville 0-4- 0WT 1126/1947 Barbouilleur for inspection and repair.
Barbouilleur went out of ticket in July 2007.The running gear is worn but thought to be serviceable if anew boiler certificate can be secured.
