RAIL contractor Ricardo is to provide advice for the Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE), currently under development on the site of the Nant Helen opencast mine and Onllwyn Washery in Neath Port Talbot, South Wales.
Ricardo, which has agreed a memorandum of understanding with GCRE, will work with the centre’s management with a particular focus on how the site will deliver approvals and certification processes for the rail industry.
The company is expected to draw upon its previous experience with clients from around the world.
When completed, the 1700-acre GCRE complex will be a fully integrated testing and research base, featuring two electrified test loops, one for vehicle trials and the other for infrastructure evaluation.
