CROSSCOUNTRY has agreed an eight-year extension to Alstom’s contract to maintain, overhaul, service and clean the operator’s Class 220 ‘Voyager’ and Class 221 ‘Super Voyager’ trains at Central Rivers depot near Burton-on-Trent.
The deal for the continuation of the Train Services Agreement (TSA), which will run until 2031, is worth around £824 million and covers 34
Class 220s and 24 Class 221s. It will also include a further seven Class 221s which are to be transferred to augment the CrossCountry fleet once they are released by Avanti West Coast.
The contract extension covers plans to reduce the weight of the units and install an intelligent engine stop start system (IESS) to reduce emissions and fuel usage.
