Management change
STEVE Backhouse has stepped down as general manager of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway after four years in the role. As an interim measure, fellow director and trustee Marc Morgan Huws is covering the role with immediate effect, nominally working three days a week to fit in with his other commitments. Marc will be standing down from the board while he fulfils this role. It is expected that the recruitment process for a replacement GM will begin in mid-January with a view to having the successful candidate in post by the end June.
Saint to visit Ongar
THE Great Western Society’s ‘Saint’ No. 2999 Lady of Legend is to star in the Epping Ongar Railway’s (EOR) April 26-28 steam gala. The 4-6-0 is set to appear alongside GWR ‘Hall’ No. 4953 Pitchford Hall, ‘Small Prairie’ No. L150 (5521), and Hawthorne Leslie 0-6-0ST Isabel (3437/1919). The railway said it is hoped further visiting locomotives will be announced in due course. Trains will additionally run until late evening on the Saturday. All trains will be running in conjunction with EOR’s fleet of vintage London buses, which will provide connections with Epping Underground and Shenfield National Rail stations.
