FOUR heritage lines have received recognition in recent weeks at award ceremonies organised by their respective regional tourism bodies.
On November 23, the Llangollen &Corwen Railway won Attraction of the Year for 2023 at the Go North Wales Tourism Awards. The annual event organised by North Wales Tourism celebrates the dedication, skill and achievements of the region’s tourism and hospitality industry.
Tom Taylor, the line’s general manager, said:“We had to work with the rest of the tourism industry just to survive, but in 2023 we fulfilled our long-held ambition of taking the railway back to Corwen, which is already making a big difference to the town.
“The amazing team of volunteers and staff at our railway have been key to getting us back from the brink of collapse to where we are now. This award is for them.
“We are totally focussed on moving forward now; supporting our partner organisations in the Dee Valley as we head towards it becoming a National Park. As part of this vision, the Llangollen &Corwen Railway needs to continue to stabilise, recover and develop a really polished offering – for both the local community and our visitors to enjoy and benefit from for many years to come.”
