HAVING removed the old sleeper platform from Sittingbourne Viaduct station preparatory to building a longer and higher platform (RM, December), the Sittingbourne &Kemsley Light Railway (SKLR) has commenced work on the new structure.
Topping up an existing grant from Swale Borough Council and SKLR members’donations, local building product supplier Ibstock has provided concrete beams for the new beam-andblock concrete platform which sits on top of cast concrete piers.
Ibstock has also provided precast concrete platform edging.
The concrete products were delivered, free of charge, by Seymour Transport Ltd to SKLR’s Kemsley Down station, then taken to Sittingbourne Viaduct (which does not have road access) by train where the components were unloaded into position by the 2ft 6in gauge line’s volunteers.
