THE Pioneer Diesel Locomotive Group-owned Class 45 No. 45105 was started up for the first time in preservation at Barrow Hill on November 17.
The ‘Peak’ was withdrawn by British Rail in May 1987 following a bogie fire, and was acquired from store at March (Cambridgeshire) by the PDLG in May 1993. It was initially moved to Matlock (Peak Rail), but transferred to Barrow Hill in
1999. Some of the major tasks undertaken include a complete cab rebuild, generator repairs, an internal overhaul, and body work repairs.
The PDLG owns two other Class 45s, Nos. 45060 Sherwood Forester (which will be the group’s main priority at Barrow Hill when No. 45105 is finished) and No. 45135 3rd Carabinier (which is undergoing overhaul at the East Lancashire Railway).
No. 45105 being started up at Barrow Hill on November 17, the first time since its withdrawal in May 1987.
