NETWORK Rail has confirmed it has appointed Story Contracting to design anew railway station on the Neilston line in the area south of the East Renfrewshire town of Barrhead.
Situated between Patterton and Neilston stations, the new station will be named Balgray after the nearby reservoir. Initial exploratory work has been taking place, and plans for the site include car parking as well as bus and active travel routes.
While there is no outline opening date, a recently completed a six-week programme of major engineering works has prepared the Barrhead line for electrification by the end of this year.
