The new Geismar Track Recording Vehicle No. 701 started trials on Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) in early November. The model VMB 2014TM-US is a modern self-propelled two-bogie bi-directional vehicle and is operated by Rhomberg Sersa on behalf of IÉ. Equipped to measure and inspect the track, the vehicle includes a remote diagnostic and data recorder system which allows the machine’s location to be pinpointed via GPS. The system reads and records the vehicle’s operating data using sensors. This data is stored for backup as well as for diagnostics of possible faults. No. 701 visited the Nenagh Branch on November 14/15 as part of its trials. It is seen arriving at Nenagh on November 15 working the 0935 Limerick-Portlaoise.
