THE signal box which stood at Barnstaple Town station throughout the existence of the original Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (L&BR) has been acquired by the Lynton &
Barnstaple Railway Trust.
On closure of the L&BR it was acquired privately but its owner has now decided it should be returned to use.
The trust has dismantled the structure with the intention of re-erecting it at Blackmoor. Some cladding and parts of the sliding windows need to be replaced but the structure is reportedly sound and in remarkably good condition considering it has stood outside for 126 years.
Following restoration, it will be displayed near the water tower at Blackmoor, fitted out with signalling equipment.
