THE Fairbourne Railway Preservation Society has boosted the collection of 15in gauge stock at the otherwise 12.25in gauge line (which has a dual gauge section at the Fairbourne end of the railway) by purchasing an ex-Fairbourne four-wheel PW wagon from Austin Moss.
The aim is to convert it into an accessible carriage to join the 15in gauge heritage train at Fairbourne. In addition, the 15in gauge ex-Dudley Zoo carriage has been sent off-site for restoration.
Used at Fairbourne from 1960 until the line was regauged to 12.25in in 1986, latterly the carriage, which has glass screen ends, has been stored in the Fairbourne carriage shed. The intention is to return it to 1960s appearance during this year.
