■WELSHPOOL & Llanfair Light Railway’s permanent way team is looking forward to the provision of a new mess coach.
The life-expired body of the old vehicle has been removed from the chassis and contractors have been invited to provide estimates for a new custom-built ‘welfare unit’ which will be mounted on the frames.
The unit will incorporate a generator, toilet and crew room. The intention is for the new vehicle to enter service early in 2024.
■THE replicated Southwold Railway MOY private owner Cleminson six-wheel open wagon being constructed by Halesworth to Southwold Narrow Gauge Railway was tested (pushed by members of the volunteer construction team) in November over the length of curved test track laid at the team’s workshop base. In addition to the flexible wheelbase of the vehicle, the floor planks and curved ends of the wagon are in place with the sides still to be added.
■ FOLLOWING the October 29 end of the Isle of Man Steam Railway’s main season, a major relaying project at Douglas station was commenced by contractor Auldyn Construction. The track outside the workshops and running shed has been removed, progressing up roads zero, one and two into the platforms. Track has been left in place on the other side of the main platform to allow operation of Christmas trains.
