Testing under way for new Piccadilly line train fleet

Siemens-built sets undergo dynamic trials in Germany, and climate chamber endurance in Austria.
HAVING rolled-off the production line in Vienna at the end of July, the first of the completed nine-car trains being manufactured by Siemens Mobility for London Underground’s Piccadilly line has entered the first phases of dynamic testing.
Acceleration, braking, noise and vibration are the areas of performance which the initial runs on the test track at the Siemens Test and Validation Centre (at Wegberg-Wildenrath in Germany) have focused upon. “Although we are still in the early stage of testing, we are learning a lot about this test train and its future performance,” said Siemens Mobility UK & Ireland joint chief executive Sambit Banerjee.
