WORK to refurbish Beverley station’s 130-year-old Grade II listed footbridge began on May 30. Approval for the work has been given by Historic England.
Over the next five months engineers will strengthen the original cast iron structure and install new parapets, along with new surfacing and stair treads. The bridge will be repainted to reflect its NER heritage, but the wooden overall canopy will be removed following years of wear and tear, leaving the restored bridge open.
During the same period, repairs to the train shed and platforms will also be made.
