DONCASTER RAIL CENTRE: Despite closure, then demolition, of Doncaster’s famous locomotive works – also known as ‘The Plant’ – in the late 2000s, the city remains a major centre of railway activity, some of which can be seen in this view looking south-west over the station on June 10. LNER’s No. 91105 is arriving at the station with the 1N81/09.06 King’s Cross to York, while behind in the West Yard is a Class 150 DMU and red-liveried ‘Thunderbird’ loco No. 67028. Looking down on the West Yard are some of the works offices, still in use with various rail firms – not least Wabtec, and part of its factory in the former Wagon Works can be seen on the right. The site of the locomotive works is in the top right corner, on which new housing is being built, while upper-centre-left is the EMD/GBRf depot at Roberts Road (alongside the line to Sheffield).
