A BOILER constructed in 2002 has joined the frames of ex-Llechwedd slate quarry Bagnall 0-4-0ST Dorothy (1568/1899) at Bala Lake Railway.
Dorothy was withdrawn in 1928 and dismantled with the intention of converting it into an overhead electric locomotive in the same manner as occurred with sister locos Edith and Margaret, which became The Coalition and The Eclipse respectively. The original boiler, motion and cylinders were scrapped but conversion of Dorothy did not proceed.
In 1973 the remains were acquired for the Gloddfa Ganol collection and were moved on when that collection was dispersed. The new owners intended to restore Dorothy to original condition, but this project did not happen. The aspiration is to progress the project at Llanuwchllyn, although issues concerning documentation of the boiler need to be resolved.
