CELEBRITY ‘A3’ No. 60103 Flying Scotsman hauled the Royal Train and King Charles III to Pickering on June 12, to mark 50 years of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
The locomotive was specially prepared for the occasion by Riley & Son (E) Ltd and Heritage Painting, with its cab roof painted white and white lamps fitted to the smokebox in line with the tradition of hauling the Royal Train.
Flying
Scotsman was added to the train at York, where the King boarded, and it hauled the train via Middlesbrough to Battersby, where a reversal saw tailing diesel loco No. 67005 Queen’s Messenger take over for the leg to Grosmont, then another reversal meant No. 60103 was leading again to Pickering.
