CONTRACTORS are being sought to supply parts for the high-speed trains that will operate HS2 services.
The £2 billion pound deal to manufacture the 54 trains was won in 2021 by Hitachi and Alstom in a joint venture. Alstom’s sites at Derby and Crewe and Hitachi’s factory at Newton Aycliffe will be involved in production of the units.
As reported in June’s RM, businesses interested in finding out more about the upcoming procurement process for parts were invited to a ‘Meet the Contractor’ event to find out more face-to-face from the companies regarding what they require, prior to competing for contracts.
Orders will vary in size, value and duration and will include the provision of exterior coatings, skirts including bogie, underframe and roof covers, fabrication work, electrical cubicles, cables, cabinets and harnesses, insulation, hoses, pipework and emergency equipment. There will also be opportunities for the supply of interior components including ceiling units, partitions, handles, rails, luggage racks and decals.
