‘Q6’ cylinder failure
NORTH East Locomotive Preservation Group-owned ‘Q6’ 0-8-0 No. 63395 has been taken out of traffic at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. On May 16, the right-hand cylinder suffered a failure while working a train out of Grosmont. In a statement, the owning group said: “The failure is being investigated and it is too early to suggest the cause. The locomotive had passed all routine examinations and has been working well in the early part of the NYMR season, having run over 2000 miles.”
Equality guidance
THE Heritage Railway Association (HRA) has published the first parts of its guidance on equality. Produced by the trade body’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the first release covers no less than 20 documents, ranging from checklists and templates to case studies and lengthy guidance notes. The guidance notes cover topics such as inclusivity in recruitment, bullying and harassment and working with the Equality Act, alongside specific advice on ensuring an organisation is welcoming to people with autism and visible or non-visible disabilities both as visitors and volunteers. The documents have all been made available on the members’ section of the HRA website.
