VINTAGE CHARM: Avonside 0-6-0ST Cranford (1919/1924) is currently on loan to the Midland Railway – Butterley (MRB). Normally based at the Scunthorpe Steel works base of the Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society, the locomotive is seen at the head of the MRB’s vintage train in the Golden Valley on May 1. The train is passing the site of Grumblethorpe village where there used to be a colliery.

ANDREW Barclay 0-4-0ST Stanley (1659/1920), one of only a handful of surviving locomotives known to have worked on parts of the current Tanfield Railway before preservation, has returned to the line.
