THIS is an updated and expanded version of the reference work that lists details of British Rail’s First Generation diesel units introduced from the 1950s onwards.
It covers the more than 4000 vehicles built by BR and private firms, with details about their construction, technical specifications, entry into service, formation, allocations, withdrawal and final fate.
There are seven main parts to the book, with one of the sections being a full listing of individual coaches – although other useful sections include external and internal unit drawings, where vehicles were allocated through the decades, set numbers/formations, and much more. A large number of photographs are included to break up the data listings, and this version includes a selection of colour images for the first time.
Overall this is a very useful work of reference for anyone interested in early BR units in particular or diesels in general. PB Published by Crecy www.crecy.co.uk04 pages, hardback. £35
