THE underground section of Old Oak Common’s HS2 station in London is taking shape.
At the western end of the 850 metre (930 yard) structure, known as the station box, the first base-slab concrete pour has been completed. Running lines and six platforms for HS2 services will be constructed at this level.
Permanent works for the station box began in June 2021. Piling and the installation of diaphragm wall panels were completed in March this year. To create the west box, joint venture contractor Balfour Beatty Vinci SYSTRA removed around 80,000 cubic metres of spoil, which was removed from the site by conveyor for reuse in construction.
Once completed, it will be handed over to tunnelling teams for work on the link between it and the Victoria Road Crossover Box, with breakthrough expected late next year.
