SITTINGBOURNE & Kemsley Light Railway’s (SKLR) next locomotive priority is to return Bagnall 0-6-2T Superb to operation. The loco needs boiler work, hence the appeal launched to raise money being entitled ‘Let’s put the B back in Superb.’With the cost of a new firebox covered by a bequest and a grant from Swale Borough Council (RM, April) some £25,000 is needed to replace the stays and boiler tubes together with any other boiler repairs found to be required.
Returning Superb to service is urgent since the boiler ticket for Kerr Stuart Brazil class 0-4-2ST Melior expires in spring 2024. This would only leave recently overhauled Kerr Stuart 0-4-2ST Brazil class Premier in traffic and SKLR needs to have two locos available to steam.
