THE first stage of live testing on the three-mile extension of the Edinburgh Trams system to Newhaven began on the evening of March 13, with Leith Walk seeing its first moving tram for over 65 years.
Initial trials involved trams travelling at walking pace along short sections of the route, with frequency and speed increasing ahead of trams running to a timetable.
Despite previous suggestions that the start of services would be delayed until June, City of Edinburgh Council has stated that it remains on course for a spring opening and within its £207.3 million budget.
