THE Kent & East Sussex Railway (KESR) launched its 2023 season in style when the largest ever loco to operate on the line, Bulleid Pacific No. 34072 257 Squadron made its inaugural public appearance on Good Friday (April 7).
Visiting from the Spa Valley Railway, the Southern Locomotives Ltd owned 4-6-2 is due to run every Saturday and Sunday up to and including the first weekend in June, except for the coronation weekend (May 6-8). Further dates may be added over the May half-term week.
257 Squadron is set to headline Steam Up – the KESR’s first major steam festival since before the Covid-19 pandemic – which takes place over the late May bank holiday weekend (May 27-29).
Over the three days, a host of attractions will be on offer, including ‘behind the scenes’ access and ‘rare track’.
