IARNRÓD Éireann contractor Sisk began work on rebuilding the mothballed Limerick to Foynes line in April.
Preparatory work has begun at the Foynes end of the route in readiness for the removal of the existing track, to allow the trackbed and structures to be brought up to modern standards. It is expected that the existing track will be removed from the Limerick end towards Foynes.
The 42km line has been divided into four distinct work sites of approximately 10km each.
Reconstruction of the line is expected to be completed in August 2024, for handover to IÉ to allow the installation of automatic level crossings and signalling.
