ITS basic design may date back to the 1930s, but the Class 08 shunter continues to evolve and its latest incarnation has been launched by Positive Traction (PT).
The ‘08e’ is a re-engineered version of the classic standard, with the 350hp English Electric diesel engine replaced by a bank of batteries said to offer up to 450hp and 45,000lbf of tractive effort – which is the same as a Class 33.
