Built in 1898 as trailer car No. 9 for the Southend Pier Railway, and converted into a power car after being purchased for the VER in 1948/9, the vehicle returned to the railway earlier this year after 20 years in storage. It is pictured with VER’s Simplex p/way loco on August 12, with the end of Brighton Palace Pier as a distant backdrop.
