AUTUMN sees the annual rollout of the railhead treatment train (RHTT) fleet to deal with the problem of seasonal leaffall. A mixture of self-powered multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) formations and locomotivehauled trains are used to apply either sandite or water cannon solutions.
Locomotive-hauled sets are usually two or three FEA-F wagons, of which fifty were built byWagony Swidnica, Poland, to design code FE 006A in 2005 as Nos. 642001-050. Since 2013 they have been supplemented by a dozen former Avon‘binliner’KFA-R flats, Nos. 99 70 9310 001-1 to 012-8, design code KF 007D. Originally built in 1985 by Powell Duffryn, these were later converted by RVEL and are exclusive to the Southern Region working from TonbridgeWest yard.
