WITH the withdrawal of Merseyrail’s Class 508 fleet getting closer, the Branch Line Society (BLS) has arranged a farewell railtour around the entire Merseyrail third rail network on October 29.
Expected to sell out, the tour –‘The 5.08 Sunset’– will support four local Merseyside charities, namely KIND, SWCA (SeftonWomen’s and Children’s Aid), the Paper Cup Project and theTam O’Shanter Cottage and Community Farm.
The BLS tour will be formed of two Class 508s and the route will include the stock interchange line and both EMU depots, along with the usual selection of sidings and crossovers the society has become famous for.
The train starts at Chester (07.50), runs around the Wirral before going under the Mersey to visit the route to Southport where a break will be taken. The full itinerary is on the BLS website www.branchline.uk
