THE Veteranbanen Bryrup-Vrads, near Aarhus, which runs the 5km Bryrup-Vrads section of the former 60.9km Horsens Vestbaner (HV), Horsens– Bryrup–Silkeborg, private railway which closed in 1968 has one operational steam loco and following a lengthy restoration will soon have another.
The operational loco is ex-Danish State Railway (DSB) Class F 0-6-0T No. 658 built in Denmark by Frichs in 1949 (works number 362). Incidentally, sister loco No. 656 is preserved in Britain at the Nene Valley Railway.
The line’s second Class F loco No. 665 (Frichs 362/1949) is being overhauled and when complete will replace No. 658 hauling trains, probably next year. In addition, another steam loco; a 1928 Henschel built 2-60T built for the HV line No. HV2 is preserved at the line, but it has not been operational since 1985.
