AB 2335 on display at Museum of Scottish Railways, Bo’ness on September 2.
MICHAEL DENHOLM
A RECENT addition to the Museum of Scottish Railways at Bo’ness is cosmetically restored former National Coal Board West Ayr Area 0-6-0T No. 24. Built by Andrew Barclay as works No. 2335 in 1953, it went new to the Waterside system at Dalmellington where it operated as No. 8. It was regarded as an indifferent steamer until fitted with a Giesl ejector, which transformed its performance to the extent that it became regarded as the best loco in the fleet. On withdrawal from NCB service, it was preserved by the SRPS and used on early brake van rides from the newly acquired Bo’ness site, which has become home to the Museum of Scottish Railways.
