SEPTEMBER 5 was a turning point for hyperloop-inspired MagRail technology, according to its developer Nevomo, a European company with Polish roots.
During trials on a 720 metre section of Nevomo test track in Nowa Sarzyna, Poland, MagRail vehicles – which make use of existing railway infrastructure – were said to reach 135kph (83.8mph), demonstrating stable levitation and magnetic guidance on rail infrastructure.
The six-metre, two ton vehicle began levitating at just over 70kph (43mph), and it went from 0 to 100kph (62mph) in 11 seconds. Ultimately, the high-speed passenger MagRail trains are expected to run up to 550kph (342mph) on railway lines.
