■ THE stonework from the entrance to the South Eastern Railway offices on Tooley Street in London has been incorporated into the frontage of the Vale of Rheidol Railway’s (VoR) display building, being redeveloped from the old standard gauge loco shed at Aberystwyth. The stones were acquired some years ago at the same time as the canopy piers from London Bridge station which will eventually be incorporated into the planned new museum building adjacent to the works.
■ THE final element of a three-stage overhaul of Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Museum Trust’s 1912-built Bassett Lowke 4-4-2 ‘Little Giant’ Synolda is nearing conclusion with the newly constructed tender (still in undercoat) appearing behind the locomotive for testing at Ravenglass on July 20. The overhaul has been progressed over several years, the first stage being work on the boiler in 2019, followed by stripping down the loco for attention to the running gear.
