THE Heavy Tractor Group’s Railfreight Metals-liveried Class 37/7 No. 37714 Cardiff Canton hauled a demonstration test train during the Great Central Railway’s Quorn Wagon & Wagon Group open weekend on July 22. Comprising the group’s Test Car 2, No. DB975397 and recently restored Bogie Bolster D No. B928135, the consist passes Woodthorpe. This was the 14.25 Loughborough to Quorn & Woodhouse and was the first time the test car, in BR Departmental red and blue livery, had run in an authentic 1980s ‘test train’ formation in preservation. The coach, converted from Mk1 BSK No. 35386, was used for freight wagon slip/brake testing from the mid-1970s. The restoration undertaken at Quorn was rewarded with winning the Mortons Media (Rail Express) Modern Traction Award in 2019.
