Head out most mornings and afternoons to Chiswick, west London, and you’ll find plenty of rowers out training from a very large, protected 1930’s art deco boathouse, ten bays wide, hosting twelve student rowing clubs, a high performance university program and nearly 200 rowing shells.
This is the University Of London’s boathouse. The University Of London is one of a few collegiate universities around the globe, with seventeen universities & colleges (soon to be eighteen) and nine specialist institutions making up the University. Some of the universities are world famous like King’s College London, University College London and the London School Of Economics. Some are smaller but world-leading in their fields, such as the Royal Academy Of Music, the Courtauld Institute Of Art and the Royal Veterinary College. All come together under the guise of the University Of London, and this has lead to a unique and special rowing scene within the University.
