As any Olympic/Paralympic Games (or in fact, any major sporting event) approaches, it’s not unusual for the media to focus on negative stories surrounding the competition. Worrying levels of pollution meant that in 2008, the Beijing Olympics announced themselves on the world stage of sport under a metaphorical as well as a literal cloud of smog. London’s weakness was predicted to be transportation, while Rio de Janeiro faced two major challenges – the Zika virus and water quality. Thankfully both failed to make an impact on the games, unless the Serbian M2- have sprouted extra limbs following their mid-heat swim on the opening day of competition.
