RTN The Royal Thai Navy has recovered the bodies of 24 sailors after one of their 76m corvettes sank during a storm in the Gulf of Thailand. At the time of writing, five others were were still missing. The 1987-built HTMS Sukhothai capsized on 18 December 2022 after becoming unstable following a loss of electrical power, caused by water ingress through the funnel, into the engine room. The wreck is due to be salvaged.
ROYAL NAVY HMS Triumph has returned to sea after four years in refit at Devonport. The sole remaining Trafalgar class attack submarine was to have been retired by now but has been retained in service to cover delays caused by the late delivery of Astute class replacements. Despite her lengthy Covidaffected maintenance period, the 32-year-old boat is likely only to serve for another two or three years, due to her age.
