Fred. Olsen Cruise Line is selling Braemar which joined the fleet in 2001 after being lengthened.
TREVOR BOSTON
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines picked up two awards in over the winter, but then announced plans to sell the smallest ship of their present fleet of four vessels, the 1993-built, 24,334gt Braemar, acquired in 2001. Before entering service with Olsen, the vessel was cut in two by Blohm + Voss at Germany’s Elbe Dry Dock 17 for insertion of a 31.2m mid-body section constructed in
Bremerhaven by Seebeckwerft, which boosted passenger totals from 820 to 929 in a total of 484 cabins with larger storage areas installed to extend her range. Braemar’s debut cruise left Dover in August 2001, but she was a victim of Covid and has remained laid up in Rosyth since 2019.
The Fred. Olsen’s successes came in the British Travel Awards as best line for fly cruises and favourite cruise line in the Wave Awards. RP
