With several popular cruiseports in Europe closed due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, other ports have been able to reap the benefit, and in some cases it has given them record years for cruise ship calls. Bodrum, in southern Turkey, cashed in on the closure of the Black Sea with 101 cruise calls in 2022, including 15 by Costa Venezia. Odyssey of the Seas was the largest visitor, and the largest ship ever to call at the port.
Further north, Hamburg, too, had a record year, with 280 calls from 49 different ships, and a throughput of about 750,000 passengers. The port is also gearing up to supply more ships with shoreside power.
Hamburg’s Altona terminal is now supplying ships with shore power.
