LIBERTY LINES
Italian high-speed coastal service specialist operator Liberty Lines has placed an order with Rolls Royce to supply engines for nine monohull fast ferries to be built at Gijon, Spain by Astilleros Armon.
Liberty Lines started as the Sicily-based Ustica Lines in 1993, running from Naples to islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and currently has a 30-strong fleet, consisting mainly of hydrofoils. The new twinscrew vessels will be delivered between 2023 and 2026 and there are plans for a second nine to follow between 2027 and 2030, with each craft powered by twin 16-cylinder Rolls Royce 400m65l engines.
