Harland & Wolff has won its first defence job for decades with a £55 million contract to overhaul the former Royal Navy minewarfare vessel HMS Quorn. The regeneration project was awarded by the Defence Equipment Sales Authority (DESA) on behalf of the Lithuanian Government, who purchased the 27-year-old vessel, in April 2020.
Tailored for the Lithuanian Navy, the work will encompass upgrades to the ship’s mission and sonar systems, and an additional search and rescue capability. There will also be new main engines, generators and propulsion gear, as well as refurbishment of accommodation, hull, ancillary systems, electrical systems and painting.
