The mini-conbulker Benabell G, delivered to Germany’s Reederei Gerdes last year, is to be followed by a sistership, Kalli G, in 2023.
REEDEREI GERDES
Germany’s Reederei Gerdes has ordered a second hybrid minibulker from Holland’s Damen Cargo Vessels following the successful delivery of the Benabell G last year.
The latest vessel will be named Kalli G and, like her sistership, will utilise a 1,104kW main engine to furnish an 11.8-knot design speed, which can be maintained even in rough conditions, while carrying 3,830 tonnes of cargo. Both 89.7m by 12.5m vessels have reinforced cargo hold tanktops with a capacity of 15 tonnes per square metre to allow the transport of 172 containers: 108 in the hold and 64 on deck.
Movable bulkheads, which can be used as partial tween-decks, will allow the ship to also carry bulk grain, animal feed and fertiliser, along with structural steel and project cargoes. Both ships will be employed in the coastal trades.
