RAPTOR NUMBERS GROW ON GROUSE MOORS
Gamekeepers say that there is an increasing number of birds of prey nesting on Scottish grouse moors thanks to their conservation efforts. More than ten different raptor species, including hen harriers, red kites and golden eagles, have been sighted on prominent grouse moors in the past twelve months. Keepers on Invermark estate in the Angus Glens in particular recorded nine species, including buzzards and golden eagles, some of which are nesting and successfully breeding on the estate. The figures, which were issued on behalf of the Gift of Grouse campaign, were taken from a survey by ecological consultancy Taylor Wildlife, which was conducted using Scottish Natural Heritage guidelines.
