WORDS & PHOTOGRAPHY SANNY
“So you want to ride your bike on the best part of a 55-mile, one-way trip from your door in the vague hope that you might be able to get a train back with your bike? Have you been on a train with your bike lately? Are you sure that’s wise?” asked Hannah, a slight echo of concern in her voice. Pooh-poohing her experience of the bike-unfriendly approach that several of the train operators in Englandshire seem to adopt and my own less than stellar experience of being kicked off an Edinburgh to Glasgow train by an effity-jeffity Ticket Collector whose head appeared to turn purple at the sight of three bikes in a carriage, the die was already cast. I had a plan and a little thing like common sense wasn’t going to stop us.
