SurfGirl Magazine  |  SurfGirl 71
How are you all doing? What a few months it has been since the last issue! The pandemic has been a totally life altering experience for everyone, for sure. Now things here have calmed down a bit (big love to the health workers and key workers during the really bad times) and we’re allowed back to the beaches – how amazing does that feel? For those of us who were on lockdown, being able to surf again is a total joy.
So, here we are embracing our global surf community once again. We reach out across the oceans, from dedicated female surf crews to emerging surfing communities in El Salvador and surf sisters in Canada. Cruising into the issue we get advice on perfecting the glide and meet some dancing long boarders in Java.
Nique has fought against discrimination in her bid to be the first black world champion, championing minority causes all the way – a total inspiration and we are honoured to have her on our cover.
Cruising into the issue we get advice on perfecting the glide from world champ Chloe Calmon and meet some dancing longboarders in Java. Plus, we felt it was the perfect time to talk about the positive effects of being by the ocean; for those who may have been feeling overwhelmed lately, it’s our Vitamin Sea.
At SurfGirl, during the recent months we’ve had time to slow down, re-evaluate and move onwards and upwards. So this issue is a subscriber-only magazine and we’ve an exciting new development launching online later in the year. If the last few months has taught us anything, it’s to stay positive and be grateful for everything that comes your way, with the belief that better times are coming as the world heals.
Keep surfing and take care.
