Axis & Allies & Zombies

The dead have invaded WWII! Axis & Allies & Zombies lead designer Scott Van Essen talks us through what’s new in the reborn strategy classic

WORLD WAR A-Z

Axis & Allies & Zombies’ gameplay will be familiar to series fans, but the threat of the undead makes for some drastic differences when it comes to strategy

A XIS & ALLIES FIRST

Axis & Allies is far from the first game to have a zombie spinoff, but Van Essen assures us that A&A&Z stays true to the roots of the World War II strategy epic.

“One of the things that was critically important to me as a fan of the game was that this couldn’t just be a zombie game that we’re slapping the Axis & Allies logo on,” he says. “this had to be an Axis & Allies game first and foremost, and then the zombies were an add-on that pushed the game into hitting more of the tropes of the zombie genre.”

In fact, A&A&Z is so faithful to the original dice-chucking wargame that series regulars will be able to dive in and start mowing down the undead almost immediately.
