NONE MORE BLACK

WITH NEW ALBUM ‘BLOODSHED ACROSS THE EMPYREAN ALTAR BEYOND THE CELESTIAL ZENITH’, INQUISITION CONTINUE TO EXPLORE NEW BOUNDARIES WITHOUT LOSING SIGHT OF THEIR INNER BLACKNESS, AS LEADER DAGON DISCUSSES

It’s been almost 30 years since the first embryonic entity that would lead to Inquisition was created in Colombia under the name of Guillotina, by an American-born teenager called Jason Weirbach. The man known as Dagon could be forgiven, after all these years of blasting out superlative, unique-sounding, cosmology-inspired black metal, for slowing down a little. After six amazing full-length records and with a massively devoted fanbase built over the years, we’d allow the man a breather. But no, the cosmic-Satanic war machine comprised of Dagon and his drummer cohort Incubus is still accelerating into bleaker, further unknown regions of deep demonic space, and new album ‘Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith’ (if you thought the previous ones were a mouthful, they actually beat their word record with this one, so there) is a testament to the fact that it’s still possible to push black metal further along without adding any outside components, stepping outside the perceived limits and finding new ones.

About Terrorizer Magazine

Devin Townsend: it’s a name synonymous with heavy and extreme metal, and also a name associated with the occasional foray into acoustic and country albums, not to mention albums featuring coffee loving puppets! And of course, who could forget his very own dedication to this here mag he created a few years ago with his mighty ‘Terrorizer’ song – only Onslaught had ever done a homage to a metal mag before this, if memory serves me correctly. There’s something for everyone, which is something rare in many musician’s repertoires. Devin’s enjoyed and created a rather unique musical path and 25 albums in, it’s awesome to see that this month, there are no signs of him letting up. Read all about what he’s been up to over the past few years and how he’s feeling about life in our cover story. Elsewhere this issue is jam packed with a delectable array of quality bands including plenty of UK bands – Akercocke, The Wounded Kings, Slomatics, Coltsblood, and Iron Witch – and plenty of worldwide ones too. Extreme music, no boundaries! See you next month. Darren Sadler
