Harbour scenes are full of life, colour and light, and a beautiful opportunity for the painter but all those masts, curved hulls and lines can seem overwhelming. However, accurately representational painting can be less about drawing and more about colour, shape and texture. The real wow factor, for me, is when a subject comes to life. Here’s how I work it:
